Accomplishments
Since the Uplands/UVic relationship began in 2000, the UVic golf programs have won 4 National Championships and have produced notable individual champions such as our very own Uplands member, Megan Woodland. In addition, over 10 Club Champions have been represented on the UVic golf teams since 2000, including past Uplands Golf Club champions: Megan Woodland (Ladies CC), Brian Sluggett (Men’s CC), and Michael Griffin (Jr. CC). Most recently, one of our current 1st year men’s player, Lawren Rowe, was named University of Victoria Male Athlete Rookie of the Year for the 2014/15 season. Lawren is also a member at Uplands Golf Club.
The UVic men’s and women’s golf teams are currently ranked 12th and 15th respectively in the NAIA (as of April, 2015). It is safe to say that every season UVic produces championship caliber golf programs, and a lot of their success can be attributed to the generosity of Uplands and their membership in allowing the UVic student-athletes practice and play at their facility.
Fund Raising and Its Impact on UVic Vikes
Uplands Golf Club annually hosts the UVic Golf Classic Tournament every August. With over 140 entrants, the UVic Golf Classic raises significant funds to help the UVic golf teams travel and compete in various tournaments within the NAIA. By competing in these events, it allows UVic student-athletes to play at the most competitive level in collegiate golf, while not only representing Canada, but also representing Uplands Golf Club in Victoria, B.C
